For a combined 87 years, Chipsco and Champion Plastics
have established a renowned legacy of delivering on time,
precision tooling and functional plastics.
Founding
and early years
the foundation
Founded by Dave Learn and his 3 sons Joe, Blair, and Brian. Chipsco was born of humble beginnings in the family barn. Dave was a Talon Engineer. Talons Zipper is where Meadville's rich history is accredited.
expansion and growth
The 90's marked a period of significant growth. The 2nd generation boys brought Chipsco to the forefront of precision machining with several facility expansions and new machine tools. This period saw Chipsco broadening its market reach, serving customers not only on the stateside but globally. Chipsco was the first to really implement the advantages of hard turn and hard mill vs grinding. This era saw the company grow to nearly 100 team members and a 40,000 sq ft under roof.
innovation and leadership
Entering the new millennium Chipsco's focus was on innovation and cutting-edge technologies. Joe retired and passed the torch to his brothers Blair and Brian. These years saw the onboard of laser systems into the already formidable manufacturing processes on a day-to-day basis.
THE DARK DAYS
In the depths of winter 2006 Chipsco suffered a total loss fire. Blair, Brian and their 7 sons decided it wouldn't be the final chapter. The decision was made to split into two companies. Phoenix Laser was born from the ashes. Chipsco was rebuilt on the original site and Phoenix Laser right down the road. Phoenix Laser would grow to be the largest laser weld and sales company in North America.
3rd generation leadership
Chipsco would see Brian Learn Jr take the helm, leadership changes are always unique and uncomfortable but that is where innovation and growth are best cultivated. The Chipsco tradition of industry leadership would be unwavering. The business and the culture would remain ultra-competitive and healthy.
the present
The post covid world of broken supply chains and very few people willing to stand by their core values rooted in customer service. Chipsco and their team would continue to offer their customers old-fashioned service.
Ray Eger would join the company as a partner. His 40 years of professionalism and expertise would prove to be paramount in transforming Chipsco into a world class facility.
Chipsco’s journey from a local tool shop to a prominent player in the national and global manufacturing sectors is a testament to its unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. As it moves forward, the company remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the tool and die industry, honoring its rich history while looking towards a bright future.
